Today I am studying Matthew 5:27-32
(You have heard that it was said,"You shall not commit adultery"-v27)
In these six verses there is a lot to think about... adultery, lust and divorce. If you look through the bible you will find references to them all, in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Hebrews, Exodus, Romans... I could go on and on. But why is there so much about them? The one verse that really put it in a nutshell for me was Proverbs 6:32 - He who commits adultery lacks sense, he who does it destroys himself..
Marriage is a sacred commitment between two people, in Hebrews 13, its says "marriage should be honoured by all and the marriage bed keep pure". We should respect each other.
First comes lust and lust is temptation, 'the flesh is weak'. I think Jesus was warning us to be careful, because he loves us so much, he don't want us to be unhappy and make mistakes.
Next comes adultery and then divorce. It is all very destructive.
Today, life can be challenging, pornography is everywhere, leading men to lust after women. Women often use their bodies to lure men into sin. Our passion blinds us and lives are broken and children are damaged.Next comes adultery and then divorce. It is all very destructive.
What hope do we have?...
1 Corinthians 10:13 reflects on temptation and John 8:11 shows that Jesus does not condemn us.
1 John 1:9 - if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness
Jesus came and paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross and only He knows what is truly in our hearts, when we ask for forgiveness.
I put my love and trust in Jesus..
God bless x
